Located at the heart of the Hurunui and on the banks of the Waiau River – Waiau is one of the oldest townships in North Canterbury.  The township is centrally placed to regional attractions such as Mt Lyford, Kaikoura, Hanmer Springs and Gore Bay.  With both Summer and Winter activities on offer, there is something for everyone in Waiau.

Details  The 2016 Waiau earthquake was a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck near Waiau in November 2016, lasting almost 2 minutes. Many buildings were damaged as well as roading and infrastructure.
