Details   The Waiau Cob Cottage was built in 1860 - 1870 and was constructed out of clay, straw and tussock.

It houses the Cob Cottage Museum which is set out as an early settlers cottage. The museum houses an extensive collection of domestic and other memorabilia from a bygone era.

Details   Highfield Woolshed was constructed in 1877 and is one of the oldest surviving woolsheds in the Hurunui district. The structure is listed with Heritage New Zealand as a significant heritage place and comprises a central bay and 24 shearing stands.

Details   The 2016 Waiau earthquake was a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck near Waiau in November 2016, lasting almost 2 minutes. Many buildings were damaged as well as roading and infrastructure.
